anyone who stayed in a hostel back when we were in high school would probably had the experience with the existences from the other world. meeting, hearing, conjuring and what-nots. i had never met any or heard anything myself or conjured them. but i did imagine how they would look like when they have the pleasure of showing themselves to me. most of the images, i’m sure, were influenced by what we seen on telly, what we read from ghost stories and what we heard from others’ experiences.

like the movie IT which was adapted from stephen king’s novel. i can hardly remember the details of the movie. i can only recall the scene where there’s a severed head in the fridge and the clown coming out of the manhole. what is he doing in there?

like that one short story from the compilation of singapore’s ghost stories book. the author wrote that ghosts like it when we talk about them while we sit in group, under heavy blankets, in the dark with only torchlights to dimly light up the room. or any other way because as long as we are talking about them, they like it. so while you’re sharing ghost stories, if you get an itch and starts scratching here and there, it means they are reaching out of the wall and licking you all over! ugh! stay away from walls.

like the singing-whipping ghost in toilets that your dorm-mate told you about. of course this tale is created to scare friends and juniors who spend time in the showers too long or hogging the space for laundry. remember the once famous song with the lyrics, “walaupun lena ku panjang“? change lena to lidah. and once you heard it sung and the sentence ended, you’ll get whipped in the face with the ghost’s wet and sharp you-know-what.
.
the one i most dreaded is, you guessed it, the smiling ones. sitting on cupboards or alang bumbung or any high places like pontianaks love to do. they don’t have to do anything else to scare me. just sit and smile. *shivers* stop smiling you *@#&!?! ghost!
.
appreciate and cherish what you have. when you don’t learn to love what you have now, years from today, when need be, can we look back and smile? memories. don’t take things or people for granted. shared moments, strength, health, faith. family, friends, acquaintances. erm though in certain situation, you’d be much better off without some.
