i was a bit confused when mom and grandmother (nenek sedare in english?) strongly suggested that i read romance novels. note: if the genre is romance, most likely..no, surely..there are going to be explicit paragraphs of step-by-step sensitive scenes. i said paragraphs because it ain’t possible that love making scenes were in each sentences of every chapter. i know la! i’ve read a few romance novels haha. they mentioned that it could teach me a thing or two. what kind of ‘thing’? ;p if the ‘thing’ is language, other genres could offer such benefit.
.
the interest in reading horror and mystery genres lurks into my life since i was thirteen and stalks me ever so pleasingly till now. and fantasy was introduced by my brother. but romance…romance was made familiar to me when a certain lecturer was giving away her books and knowing that i’m keen on reading, she offered them to me. and whadoyaknow, all of them are romance novels!
.
i’m not judging books by its genres but doesn’t genre somehow indicate the level of simplicity or difficulty of sentences and how an author delivers and unravels the beginning, climax and ending of a story? let’s see chick-lits for example. ain’t it simpler and lighter that the rest? chick-lits are the ones that were best-sellers, making movie tickets sold out and making readers proud that they finished reading it in a day. wohoo! oh come on, i’m not really trying to put readers of such genres into boxes so stop grimacing because if i do, i’m putting myself down too as i do own a chick-lit. eh did i buy the novel? i can’t recall ;p but more or less, what interest us describes who we are. kan?
