.are you suffering?.
after skimming
through our bright orange etika book, in failing attempt to do some reversion
for our final paper (yeay!), i’ve come upon the revelation that we might be
suffering from something we didn’t bother to cure. because this thing that we
might suffer from doesn’t hurt thus minus the distress we have to sustain if we
have for example sore throat. or the likeliness of pleasure to pick at scabs.
therefore, we mind less to its dark persistent existence.
but of course it
hurts to a certain degree. it could even be physical to some people if
opportunities to excel more than expected were derailed either brought upon
them themselves or by judgmental society.
our education
system chose to stream pupils and this disturbingly labelled the pupils. on the
other hand, it helps to narrow down the various learning abilities of the
pupils into at least one or two so educators may focus more on them and prepare
adequate approaches and teaching aids. again, the pros and cons.
were you the
murid bermasalah?
or murid
berisiko?
or murid likely
to fail?
i tried to
recall who i was years ago in primary school. streamed into the first class for
all six years of primary school but always only seen as the average pupil,
didn’t finished my weeks of homework and got kantoi because art is the only
homework i brought home, cautious of my chubbiness and high-ness compared to the
rest of the girls, awkward among teachers, slow in mathematics, always
anticipated and enjoyed Mr. Yue aka Rambo’s english class very much.
you see, despite
the obvious pros and cons, there are many factors that could influence one’s
perception towards himself/herself in relation to streaming in schools.
so….
are you suffering from self-fulfilling
prophecy?
or basking comfortably in it?
