.unwritten rules.

they are actually quite obvious, aren’t they? oh yeaaaah, they are petty matters. not worth to hold upon. but think, anyone having that thought is exactly what make others’ hearts wearied, wrenched, beaten, dampen. more or less, embracing these rules are what people (should) consider as being tolerant, courteous, respectful, civilised, trustworthy and ermm, humane? okay, now let’s cruise down the memory lane (that is, if you have any) but i have this very strong feeling that many, many has gone through at least one of these understanding.

1.       what happened, what is told, shared in a room, stays in the room. sounds simple eh? funny how few people could actually bring it about.

2.       say, you have very resourceful notes, handouts or whatever, should you just keep it to yourself, having in mind that with this extra information, you could reach farther than the others?

3.       a friend supposedly should not go after another friend’s crush, unless of course, the subject of interest is head over heels into you. but come on, it aint THAT hard, at least inform your friend aite.

4.       you have a faithful, loving partner, but you disregard these admirable attributes of him/her for another, just because he/she is far away from you and your disgraceful manner.

5.       hey, this one is greatly simplistic spastic. returning the stuff you borrowed before the owner asks for it.

so let’s see, if there is people who had broken these rules, is it polite enough to say that they are ignorant, mindless people? really, come to think of it…what had happened to these people in the past?

Sonnet XIV

If thou must love me, let it be for nought

Except for love’s sake only. Do not say

I love her for her smile–her look–her way

Of speaking gently,–for a trick of thought

That falls in well with mine, and certes brought

A sense of ease on such a day–

For these things in themselves, Belovèd, may

Be changed, or change for thee,–and love, so wrought,

May be unwrought so.

Neither love me for

Thine own dear pity’s wiping my cheek dry,–

A creature might forget to weep, who bore

Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!

But love me for love’s sake, that evermore

Thou may’st love on, through love’s eternity.

~Elizabeth Barret Browning

i find this one of many Allah’s creations fascinating. not that any other creatures are not. it’s just that i chose to write about this one out of many other animals i adore. *grins*

i do hope i could be like how dragonflies are portrayed. its name itself has many meanings [for instance, dragon, see?]. a friend once said, a dragonfly’s features are similar to my personalities. i had an inkling that i am what she meant, before she said it out loud that day on my room in mtc hostel, while admiring my dragonfly-shaped wind chime. she said "oh, you are like the dragonfly; strong, beautiful and graceful" [ooohkay, that’s not her exact words, but close enough, hehe] but i have this smog hovers over my contemplative bonnet and i…….responded with a goofy grin.

it’s not what she said that astounded me. she is a friend. however, i immediately had a doubt, she is not a close one that actually know me so well to know what i have been through, anything that shows how strong a female i am or whatever. and i also have this very convincing feeling that she is just being nice. hehe. moreover, she is well known for her persuasive character and harmless white lies too.

what surprised me was that, for quite a while, i refused to notice or acknowledge these attributes of mine. and i know, many are in the same pit too.

so, why are Asians so submissive? or is it just Malays? we can’t really accept and give compliments as freely as we would want to. what’s wrong with being contented the way we are or happy for others who look admirable? some would eagerly argue, saying oppositely of what others just complimented or reacted the way i did and some plainly refuses or just couldn’t say good things about others.

sure we don’t wanna be labelled ‘riak’ or ‘bangge dirik’. but hey! there is no need to overly flaunt or trot out your chest whenever people notice you. how about just responding to these praises or recognition with a simple ‘thank you’ and add it up with a sincere happy teethe smile? you will be off, feeling happy and proud and thankful. and that other person likewise because he or she just lighten up someone’s day.

but surely, we should know better, the differences between airy words and real ones.

so peeps, go out there, let your heart out and make someone pleased! or just ready yourself with a smile. i want to try this out too. =)
